South American artists on the same bill as Dylan and the Rolling Stones in 1998: Las Pelotas and Viejas Locas (April 4 and 5 - Buenos Aires, Argentina), Cassia Eller (April 11 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil / April 13 - São Paulo, Brazil)
wait ... Arrested Development once opened for Dylan?
Mimi Fariña played a Rolling Thunder gig? (wow !!! I get the connection there with sister Joan, but still, that's amazing)
Peter Holsapple once opened for Dylan?
After putting out an album covering Blood On The Tracks in its entirety, Mary Lee's Corvette got to open for him in 2003?
Laura Nyro?
Laurie Anderson?
Arlo Guthrie played a Rolling Thunder show?
Love it that The Jordanaires, of Elvis fame, once played on the same bill as Dylan ... in 1963, with a pre-fame Aretha on the bill too !!
Wailing Souls - 31 shows with him in '93?
So many "wows" !!
Also, I see one has to be alert and look for the same artist sometimes in different places ... there's an entry for Allison Krauss with her band proper, then an entry for the shows she did this summer with Robert Plant (one of which I saw) opening for Dylan.
Amazing post. This is a total hoot to scroll through. For instance, I had no idea there was a "Second Night Of The Hurricane" - on the '76 leg of Rolling Thunder - and had never heard that Stevie Wonder appeared on it.
I also didn't know the Flaming Lips ever shared a bill, of sorts, with Dylan (at Kilkenny in 2006).
Which prompts a question ... I'm assuming the Lips were just part of a general line-up at Kilkenny that day, correct - not a "Dylan opener" per se? I checked to see if Sheryl Crow's show just before Dylan's set on May 2, 2003 (at an Atlanta festival I attended, Music Midtown) is listed, but it's not. Which seems reasonable to me.
So I was curious what the cutoff/criteria is for bands appearing on the same stage as Dylan at a festival, but who most people wouldn't consider to be "opening for Dylan" per se.
Either way, I love this entry and the database you've created here and thank you very much for this fascinating tool. - Noel
We’ve seen Hot Club of Cowtown, Amos Lee, the Dead, Merle, the Green Cards, Junior Brown, Asleep at the Wheel, the Jayhawks, the Mere Mortals, Raconteurs, Dawes, Mark Knopfler, My Morning Jacket, Wilco, Mavis, Willie…
